As a professional textile designer running a successful business, our client was looking for a way to cut her commute into Glasgow city centre to help her adjust to her new role as a first-time mother. She was keen to maximise a light-filled corner of her garden, perfect for designing her bold graphic prints, and envisaged a simple Scandinavian-inspired space capable of delivering a healthy work-life balance.
From our initial conversations, the client highlighted the importance of having a warm and comfortable workspace, therefore building with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) was the ideal choice. Their exceptional thermal efficiency meant that the studio space would be warm and cost-efficient through the winter, and cool in the summer.
We carried out all services required by the client, including site clearance, groundworks, manufacture, supply and erection of the garden room. Internally, the client opted to keep the aesthetic clean and simple, choosing to work with a fellow artist to install bespoke cupboards and shelving. Since the client’s designs are so filled with colour and movement, it was important to her that her studio space wasn’t distracting, to allow her to focus on individual projects.
“Working with JML was so easy. They were all so friendly and helpful from the very beginning to the final sign over. I loved the fact they took care of everything as I didn’t want to have to project manage it myself. I couldn’t believe the speed they built it in and there was minimal mess or fuss, it was seamless from start to finish.”
